Thank goodness there is nothing good on tv in the middle of the night. If the distractions of the insanely addictive internet weren't bad enough - well let's just say I'm grateful. And I should be sleeping.
Today has been my birthday! And my 21st. one at that! Turns out my boss had given me the day off because it was my birthday, even though I hadn't asked for it! It was a lovely thing to do, but I should've known sooner and I could've made more exciting plans for the day!
We had a lazy morning, then met Tink for lunch at a Korean-Thai (Asian fusion) place. (No wonder everyone get so confused by the differences in Asian cuisine when all the Asian places serve food from all over their continent but are usually only named after one or two random countries). But either way - Helge and Tink had sushi while I had some really nice spicy green chicken curry with lots of mysterious vegetables. Tink and I then shared a fried banana for dessert, which was luscious. Nom nom!
We then proceeded to do pretty much nothing. I fell asleep at some point. Then I was awoken by Helge and that we had to leave for our table reservation at six thirty. It was a completely random idea grown from the discovery of a tiny restaurant called "Smia" ("The smithy"), which is not far from us and that we found randomly once when on a walk. It was the menu that got us interested. A very short, seasonal menu with some very ... different flavour combinations. And, obviously - covered in snobbery, serving desserts like "Pineapple carpaccio" which was raw pineapple thinly sliced on a plate (but delicious!).
And yeah, so - we had dinner there! Helge had the entrecôte, while I had whale, he had the carpaccio for dessert while I had the pavlova. Honestly - it has been a long time since I've eaten something so expensive, but at the same time it was a lovely place, the mood was right, the service was great. And the food was different, but delightful. Very inspiring. And because it was my birthday I was given a wrought iron rose! What do you know?
When we came home we were so full we wanted to die, seriously. I played Deathspank! Which was awesome, and I got to answer all the greetings on Facebook and we listened to the rain outside. Thanks everyone for having my phone buzzing practically all day, absolutely lovely.
Happy birthday, Tora!

My holiday to Singapore
This is the short version, mind. But if you want the long one you just have to ask. I just figured two weeks mashed into one post would be a little exhausting for you to read.
Singapore was really really hot! I had a great time, and I hope my grandmother and my sister, Sigrid did, too! We ate a little (too much) excellent food and saw a lot of museums, went shopping, saw the botanical gardens, ate some more, did some tours and visited Sigrid's office. Mmh! And we had lots of prata, nom nom! It was really warm in the peak hours of the day, and we walked and walked - through shops and museums. It was lovely. I don't think I know a place with so many shopping malls as Singapore. And because we were there during the last part of their Chinese new year celebration there were crazy decorations all over the place. Oh oh! And we had a manicure and pedicure done! That made me feel very feminine. I am not known for being that.
We also spent a weekend in Cambodia (Siem Reap), which was incredible. I am so in love with the place, the people were so friendly and happy all the time! A clear contrast to Singapore (they are mostly happy there, that's not what I meant) but skyscrapers and a sleek metro is replaced by shacks on sticks, and tuktuks.
We saw a lot of rice fields and lotuses in Cambodia, I mean, how many times do you see that in Europe? And the rainforest foliage of Singapore is incredibly exotic. So much green mashed in with all that modern architecture. The food in Siem Reap too, was excellent - so fresh and so much delicious fruit! The ruins of Angkor wat were absolutely unbelievable. We also saw a vast amount of other ruins, like Bayon, Banteay Srei and Ta Prohm. The latter being my favourite I think. And we have been very fortunate to go these amazing places. Despite the fact that we were sweating our own brains out - it was still a very humbling experience. This is the sun setting over the floating village in Cambodia.
If you want to hear more, I'd be happy to tell you! Those are my feet :( You should see them without the bandages!
Last but not least, as I had journeyed far and slept little, turned the corner and discovered that my block was on fire!
And this is one of those very unsettling feelings I think I'll have a hard time getting rid of. It is truly unbelievable to return from holiday and be met with such a sight. I can't even leave you guys for two weeks without you causing a rumpus! Four fire engines, three people taken away in an ambulance, one man rescued out of the window, and across the street, Helge is trying to call me, in shoes with no socks. And what can I do? I laugh.
I mean, worst thing that can happen is that my house burns down and that I lose all my stuff, which would be a true pain in the ass - but what can I do about it? As long as all living things are safe, the rest is just... stuff! And sentimentally valued and irreplaceable stuff at that, I know. But I was standing across the street with two suitcases, freezing - watching the flames lick their way up outside the building.
We've been incredibly lucky, after being evacuated by the police we waited for a few hours as the flames ceased and the firefighters cleared the area. I was given a jumper by a kind neighbour who also took hand of my luggage for me - I gave her a bottle of wine as thanks! And then a firefighter told us we should go check out our apartments and return if they were destroyed. We just went straight up and found our place completely unscathed. That is where I am sitting now. So, yay! And this is what I see when I walk out my door. Close!

Our house!
In the middle of the street!
Our apartment!
It's fantastic!
It's just such a weird feeling to suddenly have your own place just filled with your stuff (well, almost just your own stuff). And there is so much to do and you have to order electricity and things that you rarely consider when living a sheltered life in an attic across town. Don't you think?
I will post pictures if it turns out nice. So far it is only us, a bunch of carboard boxes, our deliciously huge bed, the wardrobe and the kitchen. We don't even have any chairs. However if we can't afford a sofa yet, I'll probably post pictures of someone else's place, just so you wont think we're having it rough.
Even though it couldn't be further from the truth. Maybe we'll go hungry some days, and maybe we'll be a little cold - but it doesn't matter, at least I'm having the flippin time of my life - even though this hasn't sunk in properly yet! Can't wait for the days to come, we've only been here a few days, but it'll be wonderful. Whiiii!
Happy Easter!
Hello you! I am off for a bit (I'm also off a bit, but you knew this) and I'll be back by Friday! Now I'm sure I wont be missed I'm like only going away for a few days, BUT seeing I've been having the total written diarrhea the past month - I just wanted to ensure you weren't deluded to think my ramblings were delayed due to lag. I am actually out of town. Though who knows -- I might still catch a rare case of CRAZY again and attack the internet while I'm there, but hopefully I will not.
While I'm at it I'd like to say that you're LOUSY at commenting, and that this is upsetting, so you better shape up, because this is turning more and more into an uninteresting monologue. Yes, I am talking to you! Exactly. See my point? Stop interrupting. Heeh, yeeehs. Alright! That's it, I'm off!
Bye bye byyee! And Happy Easter!
(I might write a review of the newest Röyksopp Album when I come back, if you want, because I've been listening to it a lot lately and I have opinions! I have opin-onions! Onions!).
Vorspiel
The term Vorspiel is derived directly from the German word "vorspiel" (yes, I did say directly) meaning foreplay (actually) so it is misinterpretated. It is a Nordic term (widely used in Norway as just "vors" (pronounced "Fores")) for pre-party.

The vorspiel is the opposite thing of an after-party (naschpiel/nasch). A gathering of the people going out (or to a party (usually not too many people)) getting suitably drunk together. A vors is usually held at a private place, like hiding in your parents bathroom with your parents stolen liqour at the age of 14, in a roundabout by the gas station with a couple of ciders at 16, in a comfortable basement with some beer and punch at 18, in your friends new condo with a short black dress and champagne at 20 - I guess. A vorspiel can be anything. Elin and I usually have make-up vorspiels, we show up raggedy and play loud, brilliant music while getting dressed, sipping some battery or red bull and putting make-up on. It's great, really.
Vorspiel is so common in Norway because going out is so incredibly expensive. Alcohol in general is - but especially out on the town, so getting drunk before you go to the actual party or club or concert has proven economic and praises the works of Darwin. There's almost always some chick too drunk to ever leave the vorspiel at all, which keeps the weakest off the market - unless their friends are significantly strong and/or determined, obviously.
This is an important factor to scandinavian nightlife and so a major thing to most Norwegians, which is why I thought you should know! But if you still don't understand, I'll give it to you in pictures:
Naschpiel: (After-Party, look - it's morning already!)

Vorspiel: (Pre-Party, though this is actually THE party, but you get my point)

See the difference?
Remember remember, the fifth of November!
Wooot! That's today. Guy Fawkes Night, Bonfire Night, Cracker Night or Fireworks Night.
I don't have any plans along the lines of that at all.

Trippin
Yesterday I tripped over my own shoes on my way home from work. Made me feel like I'm eight years old again. Also, I mysteriously manage to hit the CAPS LOCK all the time, which means I have to rewrite everything shortly after.
Right now I'm eating a rather depressing lunch. It's nice at work though, because we're three here today, and we bought chocolate and cordial and biscuits and put it on a table so the customers could have some. We did it strictly for their sake.
iN OTHER NEWS. There! See what I'm talking about? Ridiculous. But yeah, other news! Tomorrow is my 19th birthday! Whoptidu! Pretty far out. I better be getting a snail, or a lumpfish. I really want a baby lumpfish. I haven't said that I want one for my birthday to anyone though, so I expect to be disappointed - then pleasantly surprised at what else I'd get. If I get anything at all, which doesn't really matter as long as I get dessert!

Happy Birthday Foss!
Russ is over

Soo.. That's a wrap.
The russetid is officially over, and it's very sad, as a matter of fact - it's very very sad :(
I've completely lost my voice, all you hear is a loud, high-pitched scraping sound when I try to speak, so I haven't been able to talk properly since May 16th! If this continues much longer - i will go crazy! Speaking of which - gogo May 17th! YAY! Happy Snoreway Time!
I'm sure there's looaads to tell, like that the four of us (Ulrik, Jakob, Elin and myself) drank a crate of beer inside a phone booth for a russ-knot, and later we woke up some teachers at six in the morning! (One of them had baked buns for us, she was supernice). It snowed as well, in fact - it was the coldest May 17th for fifty years.
Go team, we fail at climate, indeed. I put some before/after pictures pre/past russetid here, to describe everything in pictures for you.
Happy Birthday Hans-Jørgen
Lol! We went rollin' on ze bus, the Red Lion last night. It was actually kind of awesome, Eivind did a lot of homo-erotic things which made me temporarily deaf and blind. He also had my permanent marker taped to his hand and called himself "Edward Marker-hand". Hardcore. He actually did manage to pull some chick from some other bus, can't remember which, but I mean, yeah, sweet.
The weather is beaautiful, I was home at seven this morning so I only had time to run home, eat and put some more wool on (because even though it's sunny, it's getting colder - for some peculiar reason). Actually I woke up with my head on Hans-Jørgens behind :D
Anyway, I giggled like a little girl yesterday, must've been the icecream, because I usually don't giggle as much. The carpenters working on our house asked me about how late I was home this morning. Funneh!

Last Nights at Tryvann

There you go, we're done with all the Tryvann parties :( It was a blast last night - on Friday Ulrik and I were dressed up as barman and barmaid - it was supercool. It was all part of The Red Lion (their bus) having a pub & bar theme, right? So we had to get into the spirit of the place! It was funky anyway. Though last night we didn't dress up, we were just awesome to bits, and we danced and ate Laffy Taffy.
We then had an afterparty at Even's place. We made omelette and tranced and we jumped on the lawn and other crazy stuff, because that's just how fresh we are. Oh yeah.
So we went home at about noon today and now my feet hurt again, but not as much as before. Either way, t'was funky, there were flashing lights and I can swear i saw a female midget stripper on top of the bus "Scream '08" on Friday! She was topless even. Now that's something you don't get to see each day - eh?
I for one certainly hope not.
Tusenfryd!
For some peculiar reason (*cough*the police*cough*) Drikkepress arrived like almost two hours late, so we didn't really have a lot of time to swoosh around. But we did go on the bumper cars, which was supercool, and the dragon and the squid. The Dragon's the best, it was funky. We bought giant icecreams, and Elin had icecream on her nose, and we also had popcorn! Yay! Popcorn.
At the giant kransekake-house (which is a traditional, Norwegian, nutty-flavoured celebration cake (for christmas, weddings, confirmations, May 17th etc.) stacked as a round pyramid) we did the sinus, cosinus and tangens dance. It was geeky, but funky. We also met Iselin at the entrance, she is a childhood friend of mine, she's shy in the beginning, but I think she's about as crazy as the rest of us. She's also an excellent artist, you should see her stuff, it's wicked.
In the end everyone were kind of tired. The Red Lion (the lads' bus that we're occupying) won two awards on tuesday, including their schools' bus of the year and the nicest interior. Which they totally deserved, because they've done such nice stuff to it. But we're all ill or at least semi-ill after Lillehammer, so we weren't up for much of a party in the end, and we just went home. Iselin slept at mines, seeing she lives far away. I'd forgotten my keys, so I had to climb through my attic-window to get in! Today was such a beautiful morning, and I have fruit roll-ups from America that I'm going to surprise Elin with! :)
I'm in such an excellent mood!
Tryvann part II

Good lord, before and after shots. A little blurry it appears. Ooooh, but I'm still alive! Yay! Now here's what happened!
Okay, so seeing I was a little reduced, Elin and I didn't join our bus Drikkepress until around eight-ish. We drove around town, danced, bought some blue sweets, met a couple of other buses, Work It and Berserk, to name two. We then picked up some of the other Drikkepress girls and headed for Tryvann.
It was insane fog and lots of rain so it took a long time to get the bus up there safely. Whoever decided to throw a party up THERE? Of all places. We were stopped by the police when nearly there and had to fill our bus to the brim with other russ whos buses had broken down and such. Hmm. Well and then we got in to Tryvann and Elin bought popcorn and I bought a colourful twirly thing and we ran around to collect glowsticks. I think it rained all along, so we were probably soaked to bits, but nobody really cared.
In the end we were covered in glowsticks and assorted glowing bling-bling and we danced around and jumped up and down and it was wild. Awesome music. My legs hurt so much I thought I was going to split open, but I didn't. Luckily! We did meet Hugo and Martin and Ulrik and Hans Jørgen and Niclas I think and other people and at some point I was dancing around with a Saami flag. When one of the DJs were playing at the main stage the crowd kind of pushed me to the front and this guy picked me up and held me up above the crowd. Don't know if anyone noticed, it was wet and glowsticky and everyone were jumping superhigh. But it was ace anyway!
Around 2 AM-ish we headed to The Red Lion (which is another bus) and we listened to Hugo's ubercool song. Clicky clicky! And other stuffs, and I drew King Crab with sparkly markers on Hans Jørgen and raved for a bit. While raving I ended up in another bus called Prestige, where I met some lads from my school, but their music was really bad so I decided to get off - but they wouldn't let me! They closed the doors and blocked them and were getting ready to roll! EEP! I did yell at the guy until he let me off though.
Safely back at The Red Lion we danced around some more, played some more good music and then started to leave for the drop-off route. Like the different stops we had to make to let everyone off not too far away from home. The lights were off in the bus, so Elin and I kind of lit up the place with all the glowsticks, t'was funky. Ulrik then launched the idea of an afterparty, which was gratefully accepted, and we were dropped off by his place and danced some more! We had Cocoa Pops and did "The beetle that has rolled over on its back and is unable to get up again"-dance. Which kind of looked more like a "don't do drugs, kids" advert.

I think I danced the most really, even though I was in a lot of pain. Martin wrote "badger" on my arm, and then we drew shrimps on our russebukser to see who could do the best ones. Everybody danced tons though, and it was a most successful afterparty. Around 7:30 in the morning Thomas(?) and I were the only two still awake and still dancing(!), but we woke everyone else up and thanked for a lovely night and we all walked to the bus station.
Quite crudely I rung my stepmums doorbell and gave her my russecard and we said hello and we had Thomas in a shopping cart. While waiting for the bus we tried to get the cars passing by to honk their horns, but they didn't :( Some waved though! I then arrived safely home and died. Thank you, and good night.
Tryvann
Woot! I am still alive!I can't walk though, that's a problem. But the pink glowstick is partly to blame for that. Someone just gave it to me, and it was so supercool I couldn't stop jumping up and down for hours on end. Also I had the weirdest dream about pears, I don't think I'm going to drink anymore pear cider for a while!
Obviously I'm a little tired seeing I came home six o'clock this morning. But chin up! (dirty) russ-suit back on and straight back up to Tryvann to party some more tonight. I'm slaughter tomorrow morning.
Edit: Oh! And we fixed the music for our buss! Yay! We got hold of double speakers and a mixtable at least! :D Not as grand as the one stolen, but significantly louder than without any sound at all.
