I think this is the first time in my long career here at the crockerie that a child has absolutely refused to leave the shop. As a matter of fact, it is generally on the contrary.
But this boy, probably about three, has shrieked, literally - busted his lungs for like fifteen minutes now, absolutely outraged that he is made to leave. He fell in love with a glass lid for a regular sized stainless steel pot, and they dragged him out of here by his stumpy arms while he wailed and bellowed.
Now he has outrun his mum and her friend twice, jogged in here and seized the lid again.
Rinse and repeat. I wonder for how long this is going to go on.
I am sorry but I just couldn't find a picture to fit this post

Hello world!

I am not so sure you are still here, but - I thought I'd stop by anyway because I haven't been here in such a long time!
You may already have figured that I totally failed NaNoWriMo this year, as so many times before. Admittedly, it was a little worse this time around. I only got about 1/5 of the way. But you know, I think if I could choose the most hopeless month to decide to write a novel it would probably be November - or December, obviously. Because of all the Christmas-business. November pretty much wraps up the semester, and we just got one thing on top of the other and then I happened to have three concert tickets (to Phoenix, Prodigy and Kings of Convenience, respectively) and family birthdays and father's day and long hours of sale at work. It's all excuses. It's different to have the time and take the time - we all know that. But I have to admit that NaNoWriMo didn't catch me as much this year, I was to busy to give my brain room to think of any good plots. What I managed to get down was mostly random situations and dialogues that lacked much sense.
I've been real occupied with all the deliverables, especially writing that damn script, oh, and sculpting a level using the Gears of War editor. What a software nightmare! Well, right now I am stuck with writing a fictional DLC (DownLoadable Content) for Fallout 3. And because I haven't played any of the Fallout games, it is proving real hard. I dream of this assignment in the night, it's awful.
It would've been better if we had more time, but unfortunately, we don't! But it's coming along, if I wasn't working Friday through Tuesday I would have three more days (like everyone else) but I only have today to make sure everything is done. Really it is quite alright, I could think of more dreadful ways to spend my Thursday. And I'm pleased to confront a challenge!
You might (like me) be quite unfamiliar with the setting of the Fallout games, but the little I have discovered wasn't that impressive, to be honest. Oh, except the soundtrack! Man! Packed with calm, jazzy classics of the 1940's. Awesome! Well, right, as a helper along the way, and to get into the mood of the setting - I've been listening a lot to Billie Holiday! God bless she's available on Spotify. It's centering my chi alright, really warm and soothing - just what we need this time of year! I need to like SOME part of Fallout, as the post-apocalyptic, nuclear holocaust is the opposite of appealing to me.
Typical of me to decide to come back and dump another load of garbage into the blogosphere when I definitely don't have the time to. Haha! Yeah, and I need to learn to do things even though I don't want to. It's a hopeless attribute.
Oh, and here's my map of my DLC! Quite plain, but all the action happens in that underwater dome in the middle of the bay. It's a fallout shelter containing an entire city!
Bomb-Threat
Even where I work, which is a dingy little crockerie shop in a mall on the westside of Oslo we have standard procedures for bomb-threats. If someone would be likely to call us and tell us they're gonna blow the shop up, we have these procedures to follow. Among them are a set of questions we are to ask the potential "bomber", and they go like this:
- Where is the bomb?
- When will it explode?
- What kinds of explosives are being used?
- How much explosives?
- Why are you doing this?
- Can you tell us who you are?
I don't like you!
I think Norway kind of overloaded as we won the Eurovision songcontest on the very night before our national day. Everyone were running around in the streets screaming, singing "Fairytale". On my way (running) late for work today, I heard it thump out of a taxi window. And on May 17th everyone we're just so excited that they almost talked to strangers. Which is extremely rare up here, we pretty much stick to our own.
The only exception is on May 17th, because nothing is such a grand display of unity and of loving thy neighbour as the disgusting behaviour of Norwegians on May 17th. It's almost unappetizing. But being a reflected young woman, being influenced by other cultures and lifestyles through the wonders of globalization I manage to realize that perhaps the warm and hearty approach we have to strangers on this exceptional day - should be how we always behave towards each other. We could obviously skip a couple of the overly gooey gestures, but keep the concept at least, of being pleasant to things we're unfamiliar with.
We can't exactly hide the fact that our "civilized" population ia absolutely packed with prejudices. Particularly racism. I don't think it shines through very clearly a lot of the time because the topic is so extremely taboo, and everyone are being so meticulous about disguising it as being racist is considered medieval and primitive - which is true, obviously.
It's just that some types of racism is difficult to cloak, Norwegians hate strangers, we really do. I wont say we are abnormally paranoid or hostile, it's just that we're so evasive. We avoid confrontations, just like we're avoiding the problem at hand. We wont trust anyone with anything, but if we do as an exception, we wont hesitate to say "I told you so" if it goes wrong. We get along with our neighbours just because we have to. And we're also positively the first to break out a prejudicive remark or crack a joke on the topic. It comes extremely natural to us, perhaps a little bit too much.
I'm not saying we're all like that, an extraordinary lot of us are enjoying the variety of people, food, music, work, art or whatnot that is brought to us from other cultures and adopted by our own. I wonder how often a Norwegian haves taco, or stir fry, or chicken tikka masala or even just kebab without actually considering how lucky we are to be able to enjoy this delighful variety of foods - and why. Well hello you, I tell you something - your grandpa sure as hell didn't dig the chicken tikka out of the ground at his classical Norwegian farm. This topic is actually quite hard to write about, because it's so moronically unlogical.
But anyway, a japanese couple came into the shop and bought a lot of cutlery from me, they were so joyous that they gave me a piece of chocolate before they left! Thank you!

Took this by the river. Norway is pretty in the spring. No?
Happy work tiemz
It's been a delightfully busy day today. Not too long queues, people have been reasonably pleasant and the weather is quite nice (I think). Shop across the hall is actually not playing disgusting RnB, hiphop-pop, but chill-out jazz. It's nice as a variation, at least. Tomorrow is May 17th. And as everyone here would already know, it's the 137th day of the year - AND the national day of Norway.
So, naturally - we'll all be "walking in trains" meaning; having parades and waving our flag and being really nationalistic. In addition we'll eat a lot of ice cream, sausages, cake and potentially strawberries. Needless to say, it's a good day to be Norwegian.
I giggled at the ingredient list of my Innocent Blueberry, Pomme Granate & Acai smoothie, too, it went like this:
76 Grapes
2 1/2 Bananas
1 1/2 Pomme granates
2 Oranges
160 Blueberries
100 Acai berries
A little lemon juice
No trumpets
No trumpets? We'll I'd flippin hope not! Happy May 17th you bubbly little jaccuzzi fizzer.

Witty-less
I am SO sorry my fizzy little creamcup. I just realized I used to try to be funny when I blogged, but it appears I've been having such a good time lately (13 days since last unhappy moment) that I must have completely forgotten. This might (in my defense) be due to the fact that I can have subconciously realized that I was never funny to begin with. Hm. But then I am confused above average today.
As a matter of fact my brain feels like an overswollen sponge right now, like dripping with oily cheese sweat - I forget everything and ram into more corners than I usually do. This did feel particularily risky when at work, obviously - seeing there's a lot of glass and old ladies and other easily breakable objects. Luckily I still have both kneecaps though, at least it feels like I do.
Right now I could right fancy some springrolls, I haven't had that in aaages, and she really meant ages. I'd like to have dimples when I smile too, it looks so gorgeous, but unfortunately the closest I get is having them on my lower back. But ooh! Scary old man in trenchcoat just passed me by, he usually buys loads of sweets in the shop - which looks incredibly conspicous if I may say so myself. But hopefully he isn't fishing for little kids, he has hopefully just an incredible sweet tooth. Though maybe you'd be very naïve to think that.

Time Wasters
Today I had it up to here with timewasters, even though I consider myself a patient person. A lifetime's experience with obnoxious siblings and excrutiatingly annoying parents have made me so tolerant, you could almost say I'm an idiot because of it. I am sure I am one of those girls that could end up in the wrong kind of relationship and find myself handled like a puppet, bound by strings of impeccable forbearance. Loving the most abusive bastard this side of the moon, shrugging off the maltreatment without even noticing.
But this hour my tolerance was put to the test yet again, and I surprised myself by for the first time actually cutting the crap and show backbone to yet another time wasting bastard that creeped into my store. This woman's been here often, in our work-description and company policy - we're always specifically told to take extra good care of returning customers. For obvious reasons. But this old lady always makes me want to kill myself. She always asks questions she already knows the answer to. Like she could ask"How much is this jug?" and I'd be handling another customer, yet she'd still be as rude as to divert me - wasting my other customers time as well. And I would strike a guess to make her shut up, like -"I think it costs about 199,-" and then return my attention to the right person in line again. She'd raise the jug towards me and say -"It says here it costs 219,-" and I can't make a rude retort! I'm trapped! I can't say; If you already knew, why did you even ask? You old hag, you are wasting everybody's time by inventing reasons for getting attention, now go away. -- Uh oh. No sir, I have to stand there helplessly and smile politely and say something like "Oh, that would be the correct price then, silly me."
But instead of commiting homicide - I just told her firmly that she'd have to wait until I was finished with my other customer. When she brought her items to the cashier sort of contemplatively and put them on the counter i ignored her for a bit. Because as per usual with time-wasters, no decision is made just because they give you the impression that they have. I looked sideways at her and asked if she was buying it, she gave me a long, unnecessary "Hmmmmmmmmm...." and touched her chin. I went off and started loading new arrivals from a carton while she was still pretending to be important. But it took half the time it usually takes for her to make a decision when she realized that I couldn't give less of a shit of what she was doing. So she said - slowly, of course "Hmm.. yees. I thi-ink I will take that one..."
I was quickly by her side, checked all the cognac glasses for flaws, removed the price tag and asked her if it was a gift. She pretended not to pay attention to me, so I just asked her a bit more sternly if she wanted me to giftwrap it. She continued to hover as if in a state of indecisiveness for almost a minute. I was about to ask again, but decided to just demonstratively put it in a plastic bag. Her eyes widened at me."It is a gift. Yes. You may wrap it up." She said then, when it was placed in front of her. So I patiently wrapped it and put it back in the bag and told her how much it would cost her. She was about to start a rant on something trivial, as if she was in doubt of if she had really made a good purchase or not. I said it was a good price, smiling all the time while tidying up behind the counter and keeping myself occupied. After several minutes she came through and handed me the money - slooowly, of course. I gave her her change back, said goodbye and went to do something else. Didn't even bother to stay for her curtain close grand hesitance finale.
I have just had enough with people Hmm..'ing and Hwmm...'ing to their hearts content while I have had to stand there and listen. I'm happily effective so you don't have to spend more time than you need to in this God forsaken store. But if you don't respect my time or at least be civil with me, I wont make an effort to make you feel like coming back. I am at work, your happiness is my priority - but that doesn't give you the right to force me to wait for your demented brain to take action. Not anymore. Sorry.
Oh. My --- I can't believe it! Guess who was just here?! Scissor man was here! Want to guess what he bought? He bought a pair of scissors. Hahaha! Seriously, I hope I am not supplying weapons to a serial killer...

About today
I feel like I need to get back into a good rhythm again, I know I complained about everything feeling like a repetitive pattern (and that's not what I mean) seriously, I hated that. But right now it's like I'm not even touching the ground, the easter holiday just launched me into a wayload of relaxing and chilling and having a great time in general, so now I better shape up and get things done. Like I really need to tidy up in here, it looks awful. There's clutter everywhere. You know what? I think I'm going to finish this random gush of uninteresting information and tidy up instead. Here, take this random scenery picture I took in Molde instead. Thank you. I like showing off on how beautiful Norway is.
Now I'm going to eat your brain and gain your knowledge.
Hungrrhyyyy
I am at work. It has been a sunny day today, still is. The mall is light and quiet, not too cold - it's nice. I've been reading the papers, taken a few work-related calls, tidied up a bit and thought about stuff with an empty expression on my face. Though more importantly, I'm hungry.Hunger, I think - leaves one with a pressing, gnawing feeling of restlessness. Nothing - or at least few things - can stop the creeping sensation that something is missing. My mind wanders, my eyesight goes unfocused, my brain is even more distant than usual - and I'd be satisfied eating just about anything. Candlewax, tea leaves, glue, paper - bits of wood, or maybe napkins. That's what my diet would consist of if I got locked in here. That's what I'm considering to eat right now.
The two most satisfying and delicious meals I've ever had have been those random late-night occurances when food have suddenly been presented to me unexpectedly and when I have not been able to fully realize exactly how hungry I was before I saw food. And actually both times it's been pizza. The first time was years ago when out partying with my sister in Bergen and someone behind the bar made frozen-pizzas and I was given a slice. It was a kind of sensation i have later been troubled to recollect at all. All I know is that it was wonderful. The second time was two weeks ago in a hostel bed in Germany when around midnight I split the best pizza I've ever had, with twice as much cheese as necessary - but with twice the delight.
In the end I often suspect that the media can make us want to remember less perfect moments though with more romantic credibility and forget the ones that truly leave an impression. Like in books and in movies the clichéed situations, the expensive ones gets highlighted, while the quirky situations are left unnoticed and without memory. What truly beats the romance in sharing a double mozzarella pizza on a beer infused double bed in a cold, smelly boys room late at night on a schooltrip to Germany? Watching the boats in the cold and dark at Aker Brygge during the autumn? Lying on a green sofa in the basement, listening to the same Mark Foster song over and over? Eating too much sweets - until our tummies ache and watch ridiculous machinima till late at night?
To me, I think... Nothing.
Memories of summer
Summer more than anything is standing in the shop right here and looking at the sunlight shining through the windows in the ceiling and having cold toes because I'm wearing flipflops - but really it is quite cold inside.
And on my way to work - and from work- I listened to Coldplay's "Viva La Vida" album, and when at work i'd stand around, staring into nothing and drinking Twining's peach & Passion Fruit, fruit flavour infusion tea. That's pretty much (with a couple exceptions) how I spent last summer. And right now I am drinking that same tea and it reminded me of the summer.
It's snowing HEAPS, I really can't remember last time it snowed as much as it has now. It HAS to be some kind of record. Can't wait for the summer.

At the shop
He had big boots and a hat and a weird walk where he kind of kicked his feet out in front of him nonchalantly - yet determinedly. Oh! He just walked back in here. Hold on.
He bought another pair of scissors. Wow, I wonder what he needs them for. Anyway, this time he said; "They were so cheap". And I took his money and I said: -"Who are you going to kill?" And he smiled this time, actually I MIGHT have heard a giggle, but I can't be too sure. Because when he was here a few minutes ago and bought the first pair of scissors I said; "These are scissors +5 which means you'll be extra strong while wielding them." he said -"Ok." I don't know what he meant by that, but it surely didn't mean that he thought it was funny. Which I found annoying, of course.
I hate it when people wont smile. Yes it was a terrible joke, and I don't DEMAND anyone to laugh at my jokes, but general politeness and for the sake of good service I ALWAYS laugh at other people's jokes. It's perfectly normal. If you can't find it within yourself to lie at the expense of the boosting of others self-esteem, well I am sure that makes you a little arrogant.
And what worse day to be arrogant than valentines.
Nawh, two guys were just in and bought Valentine cards, they were the sweetest ever, they had flowers and they had shaved and they were so sweet. AAAAAW. And a guy just bought a card and I said "Aaahw, it's so sweet, everyone are buying valentine-cards, it's making me believe in humanity again!" He giggled and blushed and said; -"Experience made me do it." and I said -"Good luck with that!" as he left and he said thank you and he had a bouquet of roses in his arms.
Okay, sweetness overload. But really, it surprises me that people even consider other people these days, I keep thinking that nobody really cares about anyone and they are boicotting valentines because it is just a sales-trick. And that can mean two things, right? Either, they one; haven't realized it's a sales-trick, or two; don't care and rather think it is a great opportunity to show their love for someone. One would make me concerned, two would make me happy.
Happy valentines.

Paranoia! Panic!
I am intruigingly composed considering it's Friday the 13th today. While as I might normally come off as a calm, down to earth - peaceful person, I can in truth become superstitious at times. Even I can! I know, even I!
Cats are adorable, but I don't understand their body language any more than I can read klingon (sadly, I don't know how to). So when someone tell me that a dark, untameable animal with a vicious mind means bad luck when crossing the road from the left on a Thursday evening in Chester - I might believe it. You know. Why not? But if I get another one of those annoying retorts that the eight-legged monsters bring luck-- I'll snap like an electrified clam.
Actually I did break a mirror once. Sometime way back in my childhood, I can't quite recall any details. But I remember blaming that mirror whenever something bad happened later. But that must be a lot more than seven years ago- so now I blame the Chinese. They didn't do it, they didn't cause it to happen. But it's their fault. You see? Blaming someone for an unfortunate incident will make you feel better. It might momentarily relieve you of negative represalia from people you might have offended, but for the reference-- probably wont keep you out of jail.
You know, right - CSI got eyes everywhere.
Today, in the western world, bad luck means something completely different from what it meant back in the day. I suppose the word "luck" is abused to some extent. While as your wife dying in labour, crops failing, well drying up, kids getting the plague and you getting stabbed by a troubadour could be "bad luck" during the middle ages. Missing the bus, spilling coffee or maybe even just tripping over deserves the title of misfortune these days. I know this is an exaggeration, but -- you know- we pretty much abuse every word we use! Especially the word "tired".
But that's not what this post is about, this post is about panic! So, my advice to you is simply to forget what day it is today and pretend like everything going terribly wrong is just a coincidence. Works for me!
Don't Freak Out™.
I am at work, I might collapse from boredom.

Tonight, at work
I told him about pans and about cauldrons and pots, and he asked politely and was curious about everything. When I stopped talking, he still wanted more - so he said, "tell me about pans." and I said -"What do you want to know about pans?" and he said "Everything." So I told him everything, or at least all that I know and all that I could think of. So I talked about the quality of different pans, and that after a while a teflon pan will wear off no matter what, that in the end it will start to shake off the teflon like dandruff, and that this is poisonous. he said -"The entire family's got green, festering boils all over, maybe it is time I get a new pan!" I hadn't caught him as a man with a sense of humour previously, but then he had only been my customer for five minutes. I remained serious and I said -"This often occurs, you better wash them all with salt and lemonjuice." Then we made jokes about high-fashion cooking and cuisine and how snotty it is. Then I told him about chicken and how to handle the chicken-pan ratio. He bought a good pan, but I wanted him to stay for a little longer, because tonight I was in the shop all by myself, and it was lonely.
In the sportswear shop I tried the pink skiing jumpsuit that is insanely awesome, and almost as good looking as the guy who works there. He offered me 30% off, but it is still shit expensive though. We then talked about snow and about snowboarding and he was really cool.

Testing testing - one two threee
I handed in Susan on Friday morning. She wasn't working at all. At first I thought I'd done something wrong, but that just didn't make any sense. I have had my share of experience with moody computers. They do demand a certain amount of care and gentille.
So they called me from the shop on Monday and told me that she was gone. And it was weird, because she had been working just fine, but then she just - well, she didn't work. Couldn't even load a blue screen properly. But no matter, they said at the shop that I could pick up a new one whenever I had the time. I have been as unfortunate as to being sick of late, so haven't had the time until today. But I am now (again) - sitting on my brand new Asus X50SL with a very shiny 15"4 Display.
So wish me luck. If she ain't working when I return from work. I am going to consider a change of career. Or - perhaps, a change of laptop!
(It's raining, and I was like: Oh noez, teh silly rain I don't like. But then I remembered that I bought a new rain-set (spot on like the one owned by Paddington Bear, except its red) so I'm now actually kind of thrilled at the idea of leaving the house). Which I have to do NOW. Shit!

Trippin
Yesterday I tripped over my own shoes on my way home from work. Made me feel like I'm eight years old again. Also, I mysteriously manage to hit the CAPS LOCK all the time, which means I have to rewrite everything shortly after.
Right now I'm eating a rather depressing lunch. It's nice at work though, because we're three here today, and we bought chocolate and cordial and biscuits and put it on a table so the customers could have some. We did it strictly for their sake.
iN OTHER NEWS. There! See what I'm talking about? Ridiculous. But yeah, other news! Tomorrow is my 19th birthday! Whoptidu! Pretty far out. I better be getting a snail, or a lumpfish. I really want a baby lumpfish. I haven't said that I want one for my birthday to anyone though, so I expect to be disappointed - then pleasantly surprised at what else I'd get. If I get anything at all, which doesn't really matter as long as I get dessert!

PMPP :)
This is my Pretty Much Pointless Post!Have you spent a sufficient amount of time over at Cake Wrecks, yet? You haven't, have you? Well you should. It is most amusing. A good blog.
I don't think I can be bothered to write anything even remotely sensible at the moment.
BLABLABLA. I've been listening to Coldplay's newest album, Viva La Vida over and over and over again. Maybe I'll do a review of it. Who knows? Today it's sunny in Oslo. We like sun, we do. It's just that everyone is pretty much on holiday, so it's a waste. It's nice that leaves are green, it would've been really different around here if they weren't. Also the sky is blue, I'm full of interesting information for you. I also wrote an introduction for a short story - it'll probably be over at Fiction Chickens. Meow!
Postman: Is this letter for you? The name is smudged.
Man: No, it can't be for me, my name is Smith.
Railway Porter (cheerfully) - Miss the train, sir?
Passenger - No, I didn't like the look of it, so I chased it out of the station.
Mary was telling her friends about her new apartment. "It's fantastic," she said, "I can lie in bed and watch the sun rise."
"So what," replied her friend Joan, "in my apartment, I can sit on a chair and watch the kitchen sink."
Summer Music
Today I love:
Fatboy Slim - Song for Shelter, because it's in Green Wing and everything Fatboy Slim does is great.
Coldplay - Lost! Because it has an excellent beat and it makes me feel all fuzzy like a freshly squeezed squirrel in a tumbledrier.
Real Ones - Lonesome Town, You have no other choice but to be happy when you hear it.
Bent - Ordinary Day, it's summer in a song. Like they wrote summer down on a piece of paper and fed it through instuments and made a song from it. Anyway Bent is always magnificent, if you don't like this song I'm voting you off the island. Nothing personal, actually it is personal.
I took that picture from our verandah some years back. In the summer, so I thought it would fit the title!
Today I had a customer at work that spoke some kind of far off Norwegian dialect, and that's tricky enough to understand - the problem, or the real problem with it - was that he spoke straight in to his own mustache. Ever heard that? No! - You know why?
BECAUSE YOU CAN'T POSSIBLY HEAR ANYTHING THROUGH A MUSTACHE, CAN YOU?!-
He must've thought I was dumber than I look. I didn't understand what he said, so I talked about something else. :) Must've been a really random conversationiutyl
With love, .løiuø.97fyvg-.
Dear reader

I'm so terribly sorry for not updating, it makes me feel bad. Believe me - I spend several waking hours thinking "I should update my blog". "No, really. I should update my blog". That's what it's here for, yeah?
These days it's hot in Oslo, and everybody is at the beach or at their cabin, or in Spain or Greece, or whatever. Except me of course, I'm stuck here, smelling and rotting away like a partly digested carcass in a mildly damp ditch. Actually it's not that bad. I took Torstein to see the new Opera house, surprisingly it wasn't as ugly as I was suspicious of, but we should've worn shades because it was so white and bright and shiny.
I work though, that's what I do. I work and sleep and eat. Especially the latter. I have nothing better to do, we don't even have BBC Food, So I eat. I've done a drawing over the past few days, which was nice. Not necessarily the drawing, but the meditative aspect of concentrating on something. I'm also looking forward to starting school. I think it is the first time in my life that I'm actually looking forward to that. Not that I've been treated bad at school or anything, but I've never had a subject I've actually liked.
Hmm. Except perhaps art. But that is not really a subject, is it? Now that I've burst the un-blogging bubble, there's suddenly so much to say! Fab.
I wonder what would happen to my family if World of Warcraft suddenly disappeared off the face of the earth...? Probably nothing good. Maybe we'd explode. Not me in particular, but I bet I'd be pretty near when it goes "Boom!". Wops. Just ignore all the present tense. Your router is safe with me <_<
At Work
So I read all the cards, I read aaall the weddingcards, the birthdays, the friend and anniversary cards, the baby cards, the thank-you cards, the party!-cards and the cards with the cows (what occasion exactly, I'm not sure). Though after laughing at them I was bored yet again.
Then, I thought, why not look at all the napkins? So I did, and I was not amused. So it was back behind the counter again, and I looked darkly at the cashier and discovered that four minutes had passed since I last checked.
The only entertainment left was the people passing by, so I stood and looked at them and smiled at them. Suddenly a guy walked past, he was probably about my age and he was carrying a net of coke-bottles. The funny thing was that he was kind of lifting the net, while looking at his arm - to make sure he was flexing. And that made me laugh through the entire evening and the time just flew by everytime I thought about it.
